Her Story
Diagnosis and when:
My name is Cay Carrubba. I’m a 17 yr survivor of stage 3C ovarian cancer. I was diagnosed in May 2009. Fortunately I retired after 20 yrs working for USAF as a civilian employer before contracting cancer.
 
Currently in treatment, remission, or maintenance:
I have had several reoccurrences the last one being in 2021, and presently on a maintenance program. 
 
Who is your support system, your tribe:
My greatest joy is my family. I married my high school sweetheart  Vince after two years in college to join him in his Air Force career. We will be happily married 59 years in October. He has always been my greatest supporter that only intensified since my diagnosis. My daughters and grandchildren have also been my “rocks”. I’m blessed to have extremely close friends that continue to be so caring and encouraging. My family and friends have supported all CARE activities through the years. 

What helped you through treatment:  
GVin and I so enjoy serving High Tea and hope we will be able to do that again soon.

What brought you to CARE:  
Vin and I have been members of CARE since the beginning. 
 
How did CARE support you:
can’t express enough how helpful and grateful it is to have “sisters” to share with and encourage. I have met many wonderful, brave women that I am proud to call friends.
 
Encouraging words:
You are not alone.  We have wonderfully, talented providers, effectve treatments that continue to be discovered, better medications to help with side effects, and groups like C.A.R.E. who are here to help you every step of your journey. 
 
Advice:

My advice to anyone is not to let cancer control your life. Learn ways to enjoy yourself while in treatment and beyond with family, friends, and activities you love.
